[Update] Cops: Mother Arrested For Leaving Child Home Alone; Judge Raises Bond

After a 12-year-old girl was left home and needed hospitalization, police said they found her mother at a local bar. The woman told police she was in New Haven for the previous two days.

What began as an investigation for a missing person ended in an arrest of a Naugatuck woman accused of leaving her 12-year-old daughter at home while the child needed medical attention.

Naugatuck police began searching for Brandy Siles, 31, 883 Rubber Ave., on March 7 after police said she left her 12-year-old child at home since Saturday, March 5. While Siles was away, a friend of the mother found the daughter home alone and in need of hospitalization after she suffered an asthma attack, according to the a warrant obtained at Waterbury Superior Court.

The child was treated at a local hospital and released. Both the child and the original complainant found it out of character that Siles was away from home so long, so the friend contacted police, Harrison said. Police then launched a missing person investigation, although it apparently didn’t go too far.

The woman was found at a local bar, Mr. D’s Tavern, Harrison said. According to court documents, the woman was found at 10:30 p.m. after a person at the bar contacted police. Siles reportedly agreed to go to the police department, the document stated.

“(Siles) stated that she had been in New Haven for the past two days,” according to the police press release.

The woman then told police her car was broken down and her cell phone was dead while she was away, Harrison said.

Police said Siles admitted she made no attempt to contact her daughter or anyone else while she was away. Harrison said the woman did not indicate what she was doing in New Haven for the previous two days.

Siles was taken into custody on a charge of risk of injury and impairing the morals of a child and held overnight on a $5,000 bond. After appearing in court, a judge raised Siles bond to $10,000.

Siles remains incarcerated. Siles doesn't have an attorney as of now and she is due back in court on March 22.

The state Department of Children and Families was reportedly notified regarding the girl, police said.

The police report doesn’t indicate whether the father of the girl is involved. The woman has no other children, Harrison said.
