UPDATE: Man, 28, Still Critical After Motorcycle Crash

A Beacon Falls man remains in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after being thrown from a motorcycle he had bought just hours earlier on Monday.

Jakub Vylasek, 28, of 106 Beacon Valley Road, was headed back to a friend’s house after a short trip to the store when he tipped the bike on the right side of Cotton Hollow Road for an unknown reason just after 8 p.m., police said. He fell near house number 38 – past the commuter lot and before the small bridge - and landed against a guardrail, while the bike slid about 30 feet down the road, Naugatuck police said.

Vylasek, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He remained there in critical condition as of late Wednesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police are investigating and will consider several factors, such as whether there were any mechanical defects on the bike, whether alcohol or drugs played a role and whether speed was a factor.

Witnesses did not see another vehicle that could have driven Vylasek off the road, police said.

The motorcycle, a blue and white 2001 Suzuki GSX 600, was not yet registered; Vylasek had bought it Monday afternoon, police said.
