Man Arrested for Stabbing Naugatuck Teenager

The victim was found unconscious in a downtown street after the July incident.

 

Naugatuck police have arrested a man accused of stabbing a borough teenager mutiple times seven months ago in an apartment downtown. 

Joseph Gay, 33, was charged Tuesday with first-degree assault and procuring liquor for a minor.

The incident occurred on Monday, July 30, on Barnum Court, a small side road between Church and Meadow Streets. Just before 9 p.m., witnesses said they spotted the teen running before he collapsed in the middle of Church Street near Rubber Avenue; he had multiple stab wounds and blood pouring out of his body, witnesses told police.

The teen was treated for multiple stab wounds at Waterbury Hospital and Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital before being released weeks later. Police say he is recovering from his injuries.

Police said that Gay and the teen knew each other, and immediately began searching for Gay, who had a criminal background for drug related charges, but had previously never arrested for a violent crime. Two weeks after the incident, police put out requests for information leading to Gay's arrest.

Exactly how police caught Gay is unclear at this point. Naugatuck Patch will work on bringing you more information as it becomes available.

Gay's last address is 4 Mary St. in Norwalk. He was held on a $500,000 bond and scheduled to be arraigned today at Waterbury Superior Court.
