Man Burned Following Naugatuck RV Explosion (PHOTOS)

A man was hospitalized during an early morning incident, which firefighters determined was accidental.

An RV parked in the backyard of a property on Lines Hill Road exploded early Thursday, leaving a sole male occupant hospitalized with burns.

Fire Chief Kenneth Hanks said the responded to the property around 4 a.m. after receiving 911 call for a medical emergency at 19 Lines Hill Road, which is located off of Woodbine Street.

When the firefighters got to the scene, they discovered the RV with its walls blown out, Hanks said.

Firefighters located the man inside the vehicle when the explosion took hold, and while he sustained burns he was conscious and breathing when the department arrived, Hanks said. The victim was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he remains at this time. The man has yet to be identified.

Hanks confirmed Thursday afternoon the cause of the explosion was accidental and was related to a portable propane heater.

The explosion caused fire damage in the camper however the blaze extinguished before firefighters got to the scene.
