Naugatuck Man Accused of Faking Burglary Appears in Court

James Jackson, a Bridgeport firefighter, is facing charges of larceny and falsely reporting an incident.

A 42-year-old Naugatuck man, who police said falsely reported a burglary at his home so that he could cash in on an insurance plan, appeared in Waterbury Superior Court on Wednesday to answer to a felony first-degree larceny charge.

James Jackson, a Bridgeport firefighter, appeared in Waterbury Superior Court for arraignment on Wednesday, and his case was continued to June 21. He did not enter a plea, the clerk's office said.

said Jackson falsely reported that his 837 Maple St. home was broken into on Oct. 31 and that the alleged burglers stole his $25,000 custom Chopper motorcycle and thousands of dollars worth of equipment and electronics.

, which in total cost $35,000. Police said Jackson was able to utilize the reported theft as a way to obtain $24,000 in payments from his homeowner's and motor vehicle insurance providers.

Months after the break-in, police received two separate tips from the department’s online “Crime Tips” service, stating that Jackson’s reports were fraudulent and the items reported stolen were actually in Jackson's basement.

When police went to Jackson's home in April, to follow up on the tips, they found most of the alleged stolen goods, including the Chopper motorcycle, police said.

Jackson remains out on a $10,000 surety bond. He is also facing a charge of falsely reporting an incident.
