Naugatuck Man Arrested Following Stand-Off

Suspect possessed a shotgun and barricaded himself inside of a home, state police said.

BEACON FALLS — A six-hour police standoff in Beacon Falls ended in the arrest of a Naugatuck man whom state police said barricaded himself inside of a home with a shotgun after making threatening remarks to a woman.

The suspect, 32-year-old Jason Litke of 242 May St., was taken into custody at 9 a.m. after a coordinated effort between state police, local police and a tactical services unit secured a home on Church Street where the suspect was located.

The ordeal began when state police units from the Troop I barracks in Bethany responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at 3 a.m. on Jan. 16. According to a police news release, Litke entered the home of a woman at 21 Church St. and allegedly assaulted the victm by "throwing blunt objects at her."

The woman had a protective order issued to protect herself from Litke. The victim told police the accused was known to possess a shotgun.

The woman was able to flee the house and go to a friend’s home in Waterbury where she first alerted police about the incidient. The accused had then harassed her by calling several times, making threats such as he would “put her down like a dog," police said.

State police troopers attempted to make contact with Litke however he did not respond. Units from Troop I, the Troop A barracks in Southbury and police from Beacon Falls secured the exterior of home, and an emergency service unit, colloquially referred to as a SWAT team, responded.

After state police tried to speak to the accused, Litke was located inside the house and taken into custody peacefully. According to The Citizen’s News, state police shot a pellet gun at him and he sustained minor injuries. The shotgun alleged in the incident was later recovered from the apartment, the newspaper reported.
