PD: Naugatuck Man Drunkenly Fired Handgun in Apartment
Police said an Aetna Street resident, Absalom Rowe, also shot a round that hit his neighbor's home across the street.
A Naugatuck man is facing a of series felony charges after police said fired a pistol multiple times while intoxicated in his apartment, hitting his walls and his neighbor’s home across the street.
On Feb. 8 at 10:12 p.m., the Naugatuck Police Department got a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of 129 Aetna St. When officers arrived to the apartment, the occupants, a husband and wife, told police they initially heard a neighbor yelling obscenities and ran to the window to see where the noise was coming from.
Then, while looking out the window, they began hearing gunshots and immediately one of the bullets hit the exterior wall roughly one foot from where the couple was standing, police said. The husband told the officers he felt debris from the wall hit his leg, police said.
During the ordeal, the couple's three-year-old child was in the next room, and there were also children living downstairs, police said.
After investigating, police determined the shots came from across the street, in the second-floor apartment at 121 Aetna St. The occupant, Absalom Rowe, 49, was found "highly intoxicated," however he denied firing any weapon at all, said Lt. Robert Harrison, Naugatuck police spokesman.
But police soon noticed not only the alleged handgun, a 9mm pistol still loaded with ammunition, but also a series of spent shell casings and other live ammunition, Harrison said. On top of that, police found a total of seven bullet holes in his apartment walls, in addition to the one bullet hole at 129 Aetna St., Harrison said.
Of those initial seven, three of the shots entered the apartment immediately adjacent to Rowe’s, Harrison said. A friend, who was staying overnight, told police Rowe had also fired shots the previous night, however he never reported it to the police. The friend said Rowe also shot the toilet in the apartment, which investigators also found damaged.
Rowe was compliant as he was taken into custody on charges of first-degree reckless endagerment, eight counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm, four counts of a criminal possession of a firearm, four counts of risk of injury to a minor and a breach of peace.
He was held Thursday morning on a $50,000 surety bond and was due to be arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court.
Rowe has a criminal record stretching back the past few years. According to state records, he's been convicted on charges of assault, breach of peace, interfering with an officer, violating a protective order and other counts.
According to police, Rowe's friend that stayed overnight said Rowe purchased the gun while he was visiting family down south. Because of his record he was ordered by police not to possess a weapon, meaning he had the pistol illegally, police said.

He had a record including assault charges and whatnot and I believe in the state of CT you are denied if you have a prior record especially of charges like his

Seems I skimmed over that part of the article. Youre denied if you have prior felonies, which Im sure the assault is one, and anyone with a protective order against them is denied the right to own a firearm.

The man is sick and needs help, and I know that for as fact because I am one of his family members. He is where he needs to be to get the help that he needs. People should not talk if they do not know the details of the persons life of whom they are speaking about.
