Labriola Seeks Sixth Term in Legislature

Oxford Republican looks to keep his seat in the 131st District.

Defense attorney David K. Labriola has been endorsed by Republicans in the 131st District towns of Oxford, Naugatuck and Southbury to seek a sixth term as their state representative. Labriola, a 51-year-old Republican who lives in Oxford, will head to the state GOP convention today with 11 delegates. So far, nobody has announced an intention to challenge the popular veteran lawmaker. “I consider it a great privilege to serve the people of the 131st,” Labriola said in an interview with Patch on Thursday. “I learned the value of public service from my parents at an early age, so I’d like to continue that work.” The Yale Univesity-educated Labriola serves on the Judiciary, Transportation and Government Administration and Elections (GAE) …

Dave: I'm not advocating anything - just pointing out a FACT -- I hardly expect the USA to join the rest of the civilized world LOL! That would mean we would all have Romneycare! Like THAT will ever happen LOL! On a lighter note: let's stop underwriting a convicted felon/rightwing gas bag named John Rowland -- any outrage over that (other than me)? Romney Wins Naugatuck, State GOP Primary

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee easily won at both the local and state levels in a very low turnout primary.

Republican Mitt Romney, the presumptive 2012 party nominee for president, won Naugatuck handily in Tuesday’s GOP primary with 51 percent of the vote. Meanwhile, at the state level, the former Massachusetts governer garnered 66.3 percent of the vote with 44 percent of precincts reporting as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to NPR. In total, 463 residents voted in Tuesday's primary, making up just 13 percent of the 3,335 registered Republicans and 2.6 percent of the 17,388 overall registered voters. Here is a breakdown of the results, courtesy of Republican Registrar of Voters Janice Dambowsky: Here's a full breakdown of the voting based on districts, courtesy of Dambowsky.

Low Turnout in Naugatuck Republican Primary

As of noon, only 154 people voted.

Without a Democratic presidential primary this year and with Mitt Romney as the apparent Republican front-runner nationally, voter traffic during the GOP primary on Tuesday was at a crawl. By 8 a.m., 47 Republicans cast ballots in the primary, and by 10 a.m. that number rose to 110 votes, said Janice Dambowsky, Republican registrar of voters. The latest noon count put the voter tally at 154. That's 4.6 percent of registered Naugatuck Republicans and .8 percent of all registered borough voters. She credited the low turnout to the fact that there’s only one real primary, and that most of the attention is now focused on one candidate. “Usually in the morning we have quite a bit of voters,” Dambowsky said. Voting typically picks up during the …

Opinion: Most Principled GOP Candidate Will Beat Obama

The coordinator for Rick Santorum's campaign has a message for fellow Republicans as they head to the polls for the GOP primary on Tuesday.

Dear Editor, I’m tired of being told who to vote for. Year after year, Republican Party officials tell their registrants who they think our candidate should be. Then that candidate — because they’re rich, or have kissed their boots for years — loses. See John McCain, Bob Dole, and virtually every state Republican to emerge on the horizon in the past ten years. Do Connecticut Republicans have any Congressional or statewide office holders today? No. Yet their Pravda-style message presses on. Romney is the “obvious nominee”... who’s still short 400 votes of the 1144 goal. In other words, he’s only at 50 percent, according to the official count by the Republican National Committee (RNC). Despite his “obvious nominee” status, no crowds showed …

Naugatuck Patch In

We Haven’t Really Come a Long Way, Baby

The current ‘war between women’ pitting Hilary Rosen against Ann Romney is deflecting attention from the true ‘war ON women’ and distracting us from the real question—Who are we voting for?

[Editor's Note: Please keep an eye out later this week for "Patch Back," a new feature from Lisa Bigelow that will serve as response piece to certain installments of Heather's "Patch In."] The question isn’t whether Ann Romney ever ‘worked’ a day in her whole life, but: Does her husband Mitt truly give a rat’s ass about anyone—especially women—in the 99 percent? This made-up battle between working moms and stay-at-home-moms is causing people of every gender to lose focus on more important issues—namely whether politicians are advocating stripping rights from women (like reproductive health choices) or finding ways to penalize them and hold them back (withholding equal pay) or simply having a double standard when it comes to lower- vs. …

PHOTO: Corrected Voter Information Postcard

Naugatuck residents should be getting another postcard this week detailing where he or she should vote this year.

Republican Registrar of Voters Janice Dambowsky provided the above images of the new voter information card that will be sent out this week. Last week, the company that printed the yellow mailer cards made an error, and ars a result 18,000 incorrect cards were sent out, said Democratic Registrar of Voters Louise Sheedy. Residents were incorrectly being told the locations where they normally vote in elections have been changed. This information was incorrect and the company informed the borough about the mistake, Sheedy said. The printing company has agreed to fix the error by printing new cards at no cost to borough taxpayers. There will be some changes due to district adjustments made to accomodate the 2010 census results. The Naugatuck …

Not only will Wayne Winsley respect “the will of the people and…The Constitution of the United States”—unlike the incumbent Rosa DeLauro—but Wayne Winsley is more representative of his future constituents. Prior to the current recession DeLauro was worth a “mere” $5 million dollars. Today, thanks to political cronyism, she’s now worth an obscene $16+ million!
