Watermark University Summer 2014 Courses Available to Southbury-Area Seniors

The Watermark at East Hill is pleased to announce its Watermark University Summer 2014 semester is now underway, with course catalogs available to seniors living in the Greater Southbury area. Watermark University is a continuing education program that features diverse topics and programs designed to keep seniors’ minds and bodies fit. All of the classes are held at the senior-living community, located at 611 East Hill Road in Southbury.

 

“Watermark University enables our residents and guests to find something new and exciting to do each and every day,” said Melody Floyd, Community Life Director at The Watermark at East Hill. “Our summer course catalog includes a wide variety of topics and activities, from food to history to crafts, among other things. Our goal is to encourage people to participate in activities they love, while at the same time having the option to try something new and different.”

One Watermark University course, “Art with Pets” will take place on Wednesday, June 11 and Wednesday, August 13 at 2:00 pm. Participants will be have the opportunity to socialize with their pets while simultaneously creating personalized gifts.  The classes will be taught by Karen Anderson, an art therapist specializing in imagery and creative expression.

“Active Aging with Brain Fitness” is a special exercise course taking place on Friday, June 13 and Friday, June 20 at 1:30 p.m. Physical therapist Stephen Chabak, a graduate of the University of Connecticut, will show participants how to move their bodies to maximize brain power. He will discuss recent discoveries about the brain and focus on the importance of cognitive stimulation, physical exercise and socialization.

 

Other class topics include fitness, music, travel and the arts. Most Watermark University classes are free of charge and open to the public by reservation only.
