First Snow Fall of the Season in Naugatuck

Snow is not expected to accumulate; schools should not be disrupted.

On Monday, people marched down Church Street and gathered on the Town Green to honor veterans on a crisp fall day with the sun shining bright above them.

The following morning, people are wearing heavy coats, winter hats and gloves as they walk briskly, looking to get out of the cold and snow.

As they say, welcome to New England.

Today is Nov. 12 and snow has already fallen for the first time this season in Naugatuck. A snow squall began coming down before 6 a.m. Tuesday and had not accumulated on pavement or sidewalks as of 7:45 a.m.

All local schools are in session and will open on time as usual. (We will let you know if that changes.)

The National Weather Service forecasted a chance of snow showers before 9 a.m. in Naugatuck. They predicted it would be cloudy through mid-morning, then a gradual clearing with a high near 41 degrees Fahrenheit (it was 36 degrees Fahrenheit in downtown Naugatuck just after 7 a.m. Tuesday).

The weather service predicted northwest winds 10-to-14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Total daytime snow accumulation prediction is less than a half-inch, the weather service states.

The weather is expected to be clear with a low around 19 degrees Fahrenheit tonight.
