It's Superhero Week at the Whittemore Library in Naugatuck

The borough has declared it Superhero week!

It's Superhero Week at the Whittemore Library again! That time of the summer where we celebrate our love of Superpowered hero's and the comics they live in. We have a great bunch of programs set up to celebrate all week long...

Here is the schedule of events for this week!

Monday, July 21st @ 12:00-3:00 PM – The Comic Wall opens in the Children's Department as we convert an entire wall into do-it yourself Comic Book Panels. Come build your own adventure with a special week-long collage and sketch craft! Open to all ages.

Tuesday, July 22nd – @12:00-3:00 PM, The Comic Wall continues with a three hour “Comic Maker Space”. Kids are invited to contribute their “panels” and build the story! Open to all ages.

Wednesday, July 23rd @ 2:00 PM – Make Your Own Superhero Crafternoon Have you ever wanted to become your very own superhero? Join us for a special Crafternoon event where the kids will make felt mask and capes (while supplies last), superpowers not included. Kids are also invited to include their adventures on The Comic Wall. Open to all ages.

Thursday, July 24th @ 4:00 PM – Young Writers Group Our young adult writing club will have a discussion of comic books and graphic novels. Light refreshments will be served. For ages 12 and up.

Friday, July 25th @ 10:30 AM – All Welcome Storytime Our normal Friday morning storytime takes on a special Superhero theme with a super-powered story, craft, snack and parade! Ages 2-5 welcome, but the big kids can join the fun, too!

AND THE BIG EVENT!!!

Saturday, July 26th from 4:00 PM until 10:30 PM – Batman's 75th Birthday Party! Come celebrate the Caped Crusader's birthday with a movie marathon all afternoon and evening. The festivities kick off at 4:00 PM in the Nellie Beatty Room with a showing of 1966's Batman: The Movie (Rated PG), starring Adam West, then Tim Burton's 1989 Batman (Rated PG-13), and followed by a special screening of 2008's The Dark Knight (Rated PG-13) out under the stars in the back garden (bring a blanket or lawn chair)! Enjoy special surprises, refreshments and a great bat-raffle to be drawn at 8:00 PM. The first fifty kids will receive a special Batman gift bag! Children under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for Batman and The Dark Knight.
