Naugatuck Ice Skating Rink: Hours of Operation

Some good news, too: a $250 grant from Walmart will be used to purchase a second hockey net, and another "Fire and Ice" event has been scheduled.

Naugatuck's new ice skating rink has scored a second hockey net thanks to a $250 grant from Walmart's Local Facility Giving Program.

The first net was donated by state Sen. Joe Crisco (D-17), whose district includes Naugatuck.

In an email Jan. 10 informing Naugatuck Park Commissioner Linda "gigi" Ramos of the grant award, The Walmart Foundation writes:

"We believe that your organization is doing important work to the communities you serve, and we are proud that we are able to support you in your efforts."

With the grant money in place, Ramos says, "We will be all set for stick and puck time at the rink."

Ice Skating Rink Hours

  • Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.

Stick & Puck Time Hours

Hockey sticks may only be used on the rink at the following times:
  • Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Sunday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ramos says there are rules, and signs that will advise if the rink is open, closed or closed for maintenance. Also, she notes, all skating and events are tentative based on ice and weather conditions.

The Next 'Fire and Ice' Event at the Rink

The second "Fire and Ice" event at the rink has been tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26, from noon to 5 p.m. The snack hut will be open during those hours, and will serve grilled hot dogs, popcorn, bottled water, and hot chocolate—all for $1 each. Stick and puck time will follow the event, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The rink is located is located on the Meadow Street side of the St. Francis field. It opened on Jan. 4.
