Thor, the Naugatuck Hawk, Reunites with His Family

During the three months of Thor the hawk's rehabilitation, his family looked for him.

In July 2013, Naugatuck resident Daniel Lee drove by a woman on the side of the road, sitting near an injured hawk.

He sent Naugatuck Patch a picture and said the unnamed woman was waiting until someone from animal control arrived.

Reader Layla Balali-Colon gave us an update on Sunday, Nov. 10, of Thor the hawk's release back into the wild:

Thor the red tailed hawk was brought back to Naugatuck to be released into the wild. Thor was rehabilitated at A Place Called Hope in Madison, CT. Thor was found to be underweight and sprayed in his eyes by a skunk. It took three months to bring him back to an acceptable weight and give his eyes time to heal. Meanwhile in Naugatuck, Thor's family did look for him. Upon being released at the site he was found three months earlier he was able to fly and did reconnect with his family. Thor waited in a tall tree on the property while news of his arrival seemed to pass through the skies as all the native birds came to him. Small and large it seemed like a welcome back party. About an hour later three hawks came to the property screeching and circling. Two smaller and one larger. The larger hawk landed close to Thor and within moments the now four hawks flew off together. Then they all came back to the property and circled the house three times before taking off together. It was truly humbling and heartwarming to [experience].
