Vigil for Newtown Victims to Be Held Tonight in Naugatuck

Naugatuck native Dawn Hochsprung will be recalled, as will all of the victims of this senseless tragedy.

From Mayor Bob Mezzo's blog

Naugatuck will hold a vigil in remembrance of all those who perished in the tragic Newtown shootings at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, on the Naugatuck Green.  The principal of the school, Dawn (Lafferty) Hochsprung, who was killed during the horrific incident, is originally from Naugatuck and has significant roots in our community. Representatives of our office have been in contact with family members throughout the day (Saturday), who have expressed a preference to hold the vigil on Tuesday evening. We respectfully request that all respect the family’s wishes for privacy during this difficult time.

More details with regard to the vigil, which should include a representative of the local clergy, will be stated as they become available. Please feel free to share the date and time with family and friends who would like to express their thoughts, prayers, and condolences to all the families effected by this tragedy.

All of us have our own unique and distinct ways of dealing with grief in the wake of horrible events such as the shootings in Newtown. We certainly respect and understand the intentions of private individuals and/or groups to gather and use the Naugatuck Green in a responsible manner to mourn and/or pay their respects at other times throughout the weekend and in the immediate future.

The special meeting of the Board of Mayor and Burgesses to discuss the proposed acquisition of the General DataComm, Inc., properties, originally scheduled for Tuesday, will be rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Naugatuck Train Station/Historical Society, 195 Water St.
