Naugatuck's Unemployment Rate Remains Higher Than State Average

In the latest jobs numbers, economic uncertainty surrounds the borough as unemployment rate creeps back up to 10 percent.

Jobs figures for June show Naugatuck has a lower unemployment rate than it did in the first three months of the year, when the perentage of unemployed was higher than 10 percent. But the unemployment number is creeping back up in the borough, according to Connecticut Department of Labor statistics. 

Naugatuck's unemployment rate jumped to 9.7 percent in June, up from 9.3 percent in May. The highest rate this year in Naugatuck was 10.5 percent in January and the lowest was 9.2 percent in April.  

In June, the most recent stats available, he borough had 1,684 unemployed people.

Naugatuck's percentage of unemployed is higher than the state average of 8.1 percent. Nationally, that number is 8.2 percent.
