The Raymond K. Foley Award, presented by the Naugatuck Parent School Council, honors an individual or group who has demonstrated outstanding service and unselfish dedication contributing to the betterment of Naugatuck children. Jim and Sue Goggin have been selected as the recipients of the 2012 Raymond K. Foley Award.
Jim and Sue have been married for over 20 years and have four children ranging in age from 12 to 20. In addition to volunteering for many good causes and routing for the Red Sox, the Goggins find time for their careers. Jim currently serves as Tax Collector for the Borough of Naugatuck and Sue is a teacher at Prospect Street Preschool.
Jim and Sue Goggin have been active volunteers within the Naugatuck Community for well over 20 years. During this time the Goggins have made countless contributions to the Naugatuck Community. Jim and Sue have been involved with parent groups at all school levels.
Their involvement has included serving as officers and members of the parent groups at a number of schools including Maple Hill and Central Avenue Elementary Schools, Cross Street Intermediate School, City Hill Middle School, and Naugatuck High School.
Jim and Sue have also volunteered in a number of capacities for many local sports and youth recreation groups including the Thunderfish, Naugatuck Youth Soccer, the NHS Swim Team Booster Club, Naugatuck Teen Theater, NHS Grad Night, and Little Pal Basketball. Jim has also coached in the Naugatuck Basketball League for the past 10 years.
For the past two years, the Goggins have organized a St. Patrick’s Day 5K Road Race to raise funds for the Naugatuck Education Foundation and the Naugatuck Parent School Council. In just two years, the race has raised over $20,000 in funds, all of which have been dedicated to organizations that serve the children of Naugatuck. In 2011, Jim and Sue also served as race directors for the Sao Paio Road Race, which raised several thousand dollars for the United Way. This past fall, the Goggins were instrumental in creating the “Residents for Renovation” PAC and spent countless hours organizing phone and literature drops in an effort to pass the referendum to renovate Naugatuck High School.
Jim and Sue Goggin will be honored at the annual Foley Award Dinner on Tuesday, May 8th at the Crystal Room in Naugatuck. Tickets are $30 and will be available at all Naugatuck Public Schools, the Tuttle Building, and the town hall beginning Friday, March 30th.
