Naugatuck Mayor Bob Mezzo has put out the following message to residents:
Current forecasts predict that Winter Storm Charlotte may bring blizzard-like conditions to Connecticut beginning Friday, Feb. 8, morning. Significant snow accumulations and strong wind gusts are expected, with the worst part of the storm likely to occur sometime Friday afternoon and lasting well into the evening.
Naugatuck Public Works crews will be pre-treating roads in anticipation for the storm, and they are prepared to respond accordingly throughout the weekend. We are, however, advising all residents to avoid travel if at all possible during the brunt of the storm. A parking ban will be in effect beginning Friday, Feb. 8, at 8 a.m., and continuing until conditions improve. A list of streets exempted from the parking ban can be viewed on the Borough’s website here. Parked cars which impede the safe passage of public safety and public works vehicles will be towed.
Trash and recyclables will be collected on Friday, Feb. 8, but will begin at 3 a.m. that same Friday. Please ensure that barrels are placed curbside by midnight tonight as required and are brought-in after collection.
Town Hall and all other non-emergency management departments will be closed on Friday, Feb. 8.
Please ensure that you have an adequate level of food, gas and other supplies, and that mobile communication and computing devices are fully charged. Due to heavy winds, power outages may occur.
It is the responsibility of private owners to shovel sidewalks abutting their property. We ask that all reasonable efforts are made to comply with this requirement.
A local state of emergency will be in effect beginning Friday, Feb. 8, at 8 a.m., and continuing through Monday, Feb. 11, morning. While there is no immediate threat to public safety, the declaration will expand our options to respond to the storm and its aftermath.
Due to the volume of snow throughout neighborhoods, many private driveways may be impacted. Any assistance that can be provided to a neighbor in need is greatly appreciated.
