New HR Director Must Split Thanksgiving Day Football Loyalties

John Lawlor, the new human resources director, is also the president of the Ansonia Board of Education.

Who will the new city/school system human resources director, John Lawlor, root for on Thanksgiving?

joked at the Board of Education meeting Thursday that it might be best for him to stay home from the annual Thanksgiving Day matchup between Naugatuck High School and Ansonia High School. That's because he is also the president of the Ansonia Board of Education.

In fact, he joked that the potential conflict of interest came up during his employment interview when he was one of three finalists for the job.

Naugatuck Board of Education Chairman David Heller said Lawlor has held human resources management positions for Fortune 500 companies.

Heller added he thought it would be an advantage that the new HR director is familiar with the operation of a public school district.

Lawlor will serve as human resource director for the borough.
