Officials Work to Clean Oil Spill in Naugatuck River

The spill occurred in Waterbury just north of Naugatuck. DEEP has been notified.

 

The Waterbury Fire Department has responded to an oil spill on the Naugatuck River just north of Naugatuck Friday afternoon.

The spill occurred at 575 Bank St., near Home Depot. Waterbury firefighters have set up a command post near the area to closely monitor the situation. They have also notified Naugatuck officials and those in other towns downstream so that they can monitor whether oil flows into sections of the river that is in other area towns, said Naugatuck Fire Chief Ken Hanks.

Meanwhile, Waterbury firefighters are setting up asborbent oil boom and has notified the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which is responding.

The amount of oil spilled had not been verified as of Friday evening.
