Police ID Driver Involved in Route 8 Crash

Naugatuck man, 22, died on Sunday morning.

Connecticut State Police on Friday identified a man who died in a fiery crash in Beacon Falls Sunday as 22-year-old Daniel McLeod of Naugatuck.

At 2:23 a.m., McLeod’s 1990 Chevy K1500 truck veered off the highway about one-tenth of a mile north of Exit 22 on Route 8 North, according to a police report. The truck slammed into a tree and became engulfed in flames, the report states. The accident remains under investigation.

McLeod died of blunt force trauma, smoke inhalation and thermal injuries as the result of an accident, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington.

McLeod, a 2008 graduate of Naugatuck High School, worked for Haynes Construction in Seymour. He enjoyed drag racing, welding, video games, motorcycles and especially hanging with family and friends. Read his full obituary here.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
