Town Officials Prepping for Referendum

Naugatuck officials are still in the process of trying to verify signatures on a petition to force a referendum on the proposed $111 million town and school budget.

But they seem to have little doubt that the Naugatuck Taxpayers in Revolt have obtained enough to force the vote. Borough officials have already scheduled a meeting to set a referendum date.

The Board of Mayor and Burgesses will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Naugatuck High School to set a referendum date and approve questions to appear on the ballot.

Town officials are saying the projected referendum date at this point is July 9 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Naugatuck Historical Society in the old train station at 195 Water St.
