Search for Missing Woman, 62, is Ongoing

Barbara Grohs has been missing since Monday.

The search continues for a woman who has been missing from the Waterbury/Plymouth area since Monday.

On Wednesday, more than 60 family members, friends, church groups, ministers and other concerned community members gathered to search around the Waterbury area where Barbara Grohs, 62, was last seen on Monday. The seach was unsuccessful and family members are asking that people, even if they live a few miles away, check their backyards, garages and sheds as Grohs may be hiding or seeking refuge.

Grohs has a history of mental health isuses and could be confused, family members say.

Family members, who reached out to Patch via email, want to thank the community, the Waterbury Police Department and Thomaston Police for their outstanding support and efforts. Family members are encouraging everyone to look at the picture of Grohs' face.

"The Grohs family and friends of Barbara are hurting and most importantly, they'd like her to return safely," a family member said in an email.

Grohs, who has family in Naugatuck, was last seen midday Monday near Highland Avenue in Waterbury. Police do not expect that foul play is involved.

Grohs is about 5-feet, three inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. She has brown hair and green eyes.

Posters of her have been plastered around neighboring communities and family and friends have set up a Facebook page called "Search for Barbara Grohs" that has more than 1,000 followers.

Search teams organize at Kennedy High School, 422 Highland Ave., Waterbury. Someone is there all day. Anyone who believes they have seen Grohs is asked to call the Waterbury Police Department at 203.574.6911 and reference case No. 12-46416.
