Zimmerman Found Not Guilty: Local Reaction Sought

After two days of deliberation, the jury in George Zimmerman’s second-degree murder trial came back with a not guilty verdict.

Zimmerman, 29, was on trial for the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin, 17, in the Sanford area. The death and subsequent trail created racial tensions and raised questions about Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

Sarasota Police Chief Bernadette DiPino earlier this week urged residents to refrain from violence and seek unity when the ruling in the racially charged case came down.
