Naugatuck Rotary to honor Charley Marenghi

Charley Marenghi will be honored at the Naugatuck Rotary Club Annual Foundation Dinner as this year’s recipient of the Paul Harris Award.

As a citizen of the borough Charley has served in several capacities. As Chairman of the Naugatuck Arts Commission he co-founded the Naugatuck Community Choir and Band. In addition he has advocated for the establishment of the arts as a mechanism for economic revitalization of downtown Naugatuck. As a co-founder and co-chairman of the Davis Auditorium Committee (DARC) he worked with the committee to raise 1.4 million dollars to renovate the NHS auditorium. Currently, he directs the Naugatuck Community Band, serves on several committees and commissions including the Howard Whittemore Memorial Library Trustees of which he is the Chairman. Furthermore, Marenghi has served as a Selectman for the Borough of Naugatuck for five terms. Mr. Marenghi has also made it a point to speak out as an advocate of education and the arts at several forums including his position as Vice President of the Naugatuck Teachers’ League.

As a proud citizen of Naugatuck, Charley tries to live up to his personal credo; if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. So get involved! As an active member of the community he strives to improve the quality of life in his hometown where ever he can. He often sites the words of the late Robert Kennedy whom said, “There are those who look at things as they are, and ask why…I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?”
