Annie Potts Takes on the Role of Berthe In 'Pippin'

A new Berthe joins what is mostly still the original cast of 'Pippin.'

Annie Potts has taken on the role of the feisty grandmother Berthe in the Tony Award winning revival of Pippin currently running at Broadway's Music Box Theatre. The Emmy nominee is known for her work on Designing Woman and Ghostbusters. Ms. Potts took over for Tovah Felshuh after her final performance on Jan. 19 after which she headed to Florida to lead the 10th anniversary production of Golda's Balcony.

Potts made her Broadway debut in God of Carnage in 2009. She earned an Emmy nomination for the Lifetime drama series Any Day Now. In addition to Ghostbusters and Designing Women, Potts’ notable film and TV credits include Love & War, Pretty in Pink, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Ghostbusters II, GCB, Toy Story and Toy Story 2.

Pippin has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. It tells the story of a young prince searching for his corner of the sky. The show continues to have Tony winner Patina Miller as the mysterious Leading Player, the adorable Matthew James Thomas in the title role, Tony nominee Terrence Mann as the king and his wife and Tony nominee Charlotte d'Amboise as Pippin's stepmother Fastrada and Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine.
