Blessed Sacrament Children's Theater Heads to New York City

The young actors had a memorable day on Broadway.

Fresh from their joyous production of Annie, a group from the Blessed Sacrament Children's Theater had a fun (for the most part) bus trip on Sunday to see the current production of Annie on Broadway. Costumer Debbie Hartley Forchielli coordinated the details and took the photos shown here. "As if they don't know all the songs yet!" she writes.

The price of the trip included tickets to see the matinee at the Palace Theater and the bus ride. They departed from the Blessed Sacrament Church parking lot at 10:00 am and were scheduled to return 12 hours later. Before and after the show, the travelers were free to do whatever they liked in NYC.

Ms. Forchielli, front of house captain at Waterbury's Palace Theater, noted that the trip's participants "all decided our Palace is prettier," and I would add that it is far larger than most Broadway theaters. Not surprisingly, the group of young actors and their family members also felt that their own performance was better, "but seeing Jane Lynch in her last performance as [Miss] Hannigan was pretty neat."

The trip home did not go quite as planned when the bus broke down near Newtown CT and the tired group had to wait an hour for a replacement bus to arrive. "No charge for the extra fun," joked Ms. Forchielli.

No matter how it ended, this was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see a Broadway show at an affordable price. The fact that they got to see a musical that they had just finished rehearsing had to make it even more special for them. I am sure that they will never forget this day. If I hadn't had a birthday celebration for my dad on Sunday, I would have taken advantage of a ticket that came available at the last minute.
