All roles are open to audition. We are seeking 5 women and 4 men for this production. Auditioners should be prepared to sing 32 bars, but no more than one minute, of a fully memorized Broadway-style musical selection that showcases their vocal range. Please bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. Auditioners should mark their selection with a highlighter. A cappella singing, instrumentals on CD, Tape, iPod, MP3 Player or digital recorder will not be allowed. Auditioners will also be asked to read from the script. Non-union - no pay.

ABOUT THE SHOW
First there was the acclaimed documentary and now there is...The musical 5,000 years in the making! THE GEFILTE FISH CHRONICLES is a loving and comical look at one extended family’s celebration of tradition and food! Based on the documentary directed by David Burnett and produced by Iris Burnett, THE GEFILTE FISH CHRONICLES focuses on the unbroken traditions and ceremonial foods of an extended family that has gathered annually for Passover for more than 100 years. The of descendants of Abe and Minnie Dubroff gather in Newburgh, N.Y., to cook, eat, pray, eat some more, reminisce. And eat some more. Why do they do this? That I can tell you in one word: tradition.

If you had a mother, aunt or grandmother like Pearlie — energetic, outspoken, a bit of a tyrant — you’ll be glad to spend a little time in her kitchen and at the makeshift collection of card tables that overflow her living room. If you didn’t, you’ll be just as glad, although maybe a little surprised. This record of a family and its joyful ritual is reality in the best (and realest) sense. The celebration is leavened, but with heart. And that’s kosher.

AVAILABLE ROLES

REBECCA: Successful author who has written novels and screenplays. She is fifty-ish; lost her dad (SID) a few years before and recently lost her mother, GOLDIE. Although she carries with her the qualities of all her aunts, she is still on a continuous journey to find a connection with her past. (mezzo /belt – G3- Csharp5)

YOUNG REBECCA / MADISON(ADULT REBECCA’s Daughter) / RABBI EPSTEIN: – all played by the same actress. Madison is Rebecca’s pretty daughter, 25 and about to start a life on her own. Like her Grand Aunt Pearlie, she aspires to be in the world of entertainment. Young Rebecca is a star struck kid of the 50’s. She is striving to carve a little life for herself amid all the colorful and powerful women in her family. Rabbi Epstein is an old,wise, colorful Rabbi. (mezzo with a good mix B3 -E5)

GOLDIE: Rebecca’s mother, recently deceased, yet full of life – plays about 25. Goldie and Pearlie are fraternal twins… yet, the only thing they have in common is their love of family. Goldie is the youngest of the family so she is spoiled… her nails are always done, her hair is always perfect, she loves big gold jewelry. She loves her husband, SID, but her priority is always her Sisters. (One-voiced alto with extension F#3 – D5)

PEARLIE: Goldie’s twin. A real balabusta – she cooks, cleans, is very intelligent, constantly spouting poetry, and smart sayings. It is embarrassing for her that she never made it in show business. (Ethel Merman w/ High notesF#3 to E5)

BASHA: In her 30’s and could lead an army. The eldest of all the sisters, her place with her siblings demands that they respect whatever she says. (Comic mezzo soprano Aflat3 to D5 with a strong belt)

JAKE: About 30. The only son of the family. He is father, brother, friend, uncle, and seer. His sisters think they run his life but in fact, he is their rock in every emergent life- challenging situation. (Baritone. Bflat to F4)

RUBY WEXLER: A timeless character. He is the family’s long-time photographer. Ruby is one of the threads that run through the story. (Character baritone)

LARRY LUBIN: Basha’s husband - early 30’s – dreams of being a mogul in the womens handbag industry. (Comic Tenor)

SIDNEY KATZ: Goldie’s husband, late 20’s, a talented visual artist. Sweet as sugar and very sensitive to Goldie’s needs and those of her family. (Lyric Baritone-c3 to
