Kristen Graves fans will know that this is of her...
As some of you may know (if you ever watch the Ellen show) she has always worked really hard to promote the message of ‘being kind to one another,’ and it’s a message that I think we all need to hear!
One thing that she’s been working really hard on, is to end bullying, and the tolerance of bullying. Who can argue with that?
Now, I know, the argument has been made – we were all teased in school, it made us stronger, we wouldn’t be who we are today, etc. Things are SO different now, the teasing (which is meaner) never stops (hello, internet), and the subject matter has become more personal (teasing kids for who they are).
Anyway, I thought that Ellen might like my song, Moving On, and here’s why.
A few years ago, I attended a vigil, held here in Fairfield, by an awesome group of kids called, The Loft. These kids formed out of necessity, when they needed a place to turn after a teen in the community, their friend, ended her own life.
This is a group for LGBTQ kids and their friends, and they support each other and love each other for who they are, and they have worked really hard to bring this message of loving EVERYONE out into the community.
They’re so brave!
After the first vigil, I was so inspired by their stories, their courage, and their choices (remaining positive when you’re harassed on a daily basis?) that I wrote a song.
So that’s it. Lyrics are below if you’d like to read them.
Thank you so much for watching! Please share this video if it moves you (it just might get to Ellen!) and remember to be brave and be love!
Have a great day,
Kristen(You can watch Kristen performing "Moving On" on Better Connecticut on WFSB by clicking here.)
Moving On
Can’t focus my eyes
Been driving for miles, miles, miles
One little teardrop fallsStare up at the sky
Sometimes I just cry, cry, cry
And then smile through it allJust ride it out
Cuz things are gonna get better
Just ride it out
Cuz things are gonna changeI’m moving on
I’m moving on
I’m moving on, yeahSpent my life
Always asking why, why, why
I should feel so smallNow it’s my time
And I’m just fine, fine, fine
Still smiling through it allJust ride it out
Cuz things are getting better
Just ride it out
Cuz things will always changeI’m moving on
I’m moving on
I’m moving onThrough judgement I will rise
Cuz I have always known
That to love is my right
And my love is my ownTime to move on
I’m moving on
I’m moving on…Copyright 2011, Kristen Graves
