Naugatuck Teen Theater Rehearsing for 'Annie Get Your Gun'

Teens prepare for their spring musical

The Naugatuck Teen Theater, who tied with itself for the number one slot on my list of top ten shows presented by young actors in 2012, will present Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun in May. Rehearsals are well underway under the direction of Daniel Wagoner. Music Director is the talented Beckie Scattergood Wallace and Choreographer is the triple threat, Jennifer Mazzeo. The lovely and very talented (and Naugatuck Chamber Singer) Alex Hernandez will play the title role and equally talented (and also a member of the Chamber Singers) Zach Carter plays Frank Butler. I was able to crash a recent Sunday evening rehearsal to take a few photos of the teens hard at work.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Annie Oakley is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she is discovered by Colonel Buffalo Bill, he persuades this novel sharpshooter to join his Wild West Show.

It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction that, while good for business, is bad for romance. Butler hightails it off to join a rival show, his bruised male ego leading the way, but is ultimately pitted against Annie in a final shoot-out.

ABOUT NAUGATUCK TEEN THEATER
The Naugatuck Teen Theatre (NTT) program started in 1995 by Jim Fitch and a group of theatrical and educational volunteers. The St Michael’s Vestry saw a need for an after school theater program, and the rest is history. Well over 550 teens have past through our doors in the last 18 years.

Any students living in the Greater Naugatuck Region and CT in grades ninth through twelve (at the time of auditions) are eligible to participate.  They welcome students of all talent and experience levels.  Occasionally, with the permission of the director, eighth graders who have attended workshops with Naugatuck Teen Theater are eligible to audition.

NTT is a tuition-based program - although NTT uses St.Michael’s Parish Hall for rehearsals & performance, NTT is a separate entity and are not financially supported by the Church.  All of NTT’s programs are supported through a budget making NTT self-supporting. Tickets will be available soon.
