New musical will be at the Norma Terris Theatre this fall

Goodspeed Musicals Will Produce Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook

FEATURING OVER 20 SONGS FROM THE CREATOR OF WICKED, PIPPIN, AND GODSPELL

EAST HADDAM, CONN. JANUARY 19, 2013: Today at Goodspeed’s 8th annual Festival of New Artists, the two-time Tony Award-winning theatre announced plans for the production of a new musical, Snapshots: A Musical Scrapbook. This original tuner is about trusting your heart and believing in your memories. With Book by David Stern and Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, the creator of nearly a dozen hit musicals it is unique storytelling at its best. The production will run this fall at the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Connecticut, Goodspeed’s home for new musicals.

This romantic comedy blends the best-loved music of Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz with some of his lesser known gems. Snapshots takes place in the attic of Sue and Dan, a couple whose 30 year marriage has begun to fall apart. Together they discover a box of photographs which leads them to relive the memories of their past selves captured in the snapshots. Featuring fresh lyrics and orchestrations, Snapshots reveals the humorous twists of how love united them and why life has pushed them apart. Songs include: Popular (Wicked), Corner of the Sky (Pippin), Endless Delight (Baker’s Wife),That’s How You Know (from the film “Enchanted”), All Good Gifts (Godspell), Fathers and Sons (Working) and many more.

This six character musical is different from any other compilation piece in that some of the lyrics are new, rewritten in order to stay true to the story and characters. "As happens when you're writing an original musical from scratch, the story and the characters made the demands of what the material should be," Schwartz said. This marriage of story and song lovingly addresses life’s rites of passage, creating characters each audience member can identify with.

The Norma Terris Theatre is located at 33 North Main Street in Chester which was recently voted “Best Small Town in Connecticut” by Connecticut Magazine. Tickets will be available through the Goodspeed Box Office later this spring. For more information call the Goodspeed Box Office at 860.873.8668 or visit www.goodspeed.org.

Dedicated to the preservation and advancement of musical theatre, Goodspeed Musicals produces three musicals each season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn., and additional works at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn., which was opened in 1984 for the development of new musicals.  The first regional theatre to receive two Tony Awards (for outstanding achievement), Goodspeed celebrates another milestone, its 50th Anniversary, in 2013.  In addition to the two theatres and production facilities, Goodspeed maintains The Scherer Library of Musical Theatre and The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre.  Goodspeed Musicals gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Economic and Community Development with support from the Connecticut Office of the Arts.
