Also on Stage 2 is Next Thing You Know, a new musical by recent Jonathan Larson winners Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham.  Developed with John Simpkins (who directs the production), the show has had readings and workshop productions at NYU Steinhardt, CAP 21, and a recently released album.  The show, which the NY Times says is “Rent for this generation,” runs August 8-11.  Joshua Zecher-Ross is Music Director.

The summer classic, Damn Yankees, closes the season and runs August 14 - 25.  Simpkins directs, with choreography by MK Lawson and Music Direction by Eric Kang.

Rounding out the season is The Way You Wear Your Hat – a concert celebrating the life and music of George Gershwin (June 7-9), a youth production of the Broadway musical 13 (August 2-4), a summer youth theatre program and special events/ concerts throughout the season.

Area actors Carey Cannata (Les Miserable and Over the Tavern) and Katie Stango (who appeared with her father Chuck in Richter's Bye Bye Birdie) will appear in this musical. Mr. Cannata will play the role of Brett and Miss Stango will be playing Patrice.

The Playhouse also continues its unique partnership with NYU Steinhardt, enabling college students from Universities around the country to earn college credit for their participation in the 2013 Collegiate Company. Casting and titles of musicals for the 2013 New Works Series (readings and workshops) will be announced at a later date.

Additional artists in 2013 are resident designers Erik Diaz (Scenic), Chris Dallos (Lighting), Michelle Humphrey (Costumes), and Brad Berridge (Sound).  Alice Bemand is Executive Director, John Simpkins Artistic Director.
