Rubber City Blues Band

Fans have three chances coming up to see RCBB locally

My budding musician/youngest son and I traveled to Wallingford this week for their free Twilight Tunes Summer Concert Series. It was another chance for us to catch the wonderful Rubber City Blues Band playing outdoors on their stage-on-wheels.  It was well worth the trip.

This is how the band describes itself on their Facebook page:
“The Rubber City is a unique and powerful horn band. Unlike most bands these days Rubber City plays the best of horn bands that span the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's with a full horn section. No synthesized horns! Only the real deal!”

RCBB features 11 strong musicians and includes the venerable Charley Marenghi, often called the “hardest working musician in Naugatuck,” on trombone and Lee-Ann Lovelace on vocals. Anyone who has been to a performance of the Naugatuck Community Band  will recognize several of the other members, many of whom have appropriate nicknames listed on the band web site. You can also listen to some of their music on myspace or reverbnation

What do they play?  Great Chicago tunes like "Make Me Smile" and "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It is." Other pieces include "Knock on Wood," Average White Band’s "Pick Up the Pieces," Tower of Power’s "What is Hip" and "Caladonia." The musicians always seem to be having such a great time and it definitely spread to the audience in Wallingford. It is hard not to appreciate the amazing horn line.

If you have never seen RCBB live, you have three chances this week.  All are outdoors and appropriate for kids. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy!
