Easter Services in Naugatuck

Please add the times for any additional places of worship to the comments.

The opportunities for worship at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church on New Haven RD as announced in the bulletin.

Holy Thursday’s Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7:30pm begins our Easter Triduum (“3 days”). The holy water fonts are empty as is the Tabernacle as the Lord’s Last Supper has not yet taken place. The votive candles are covered: the lighting of candles before the images of Saints is suspended until after the Easter Vigil. After the Lord’s Supper, we walk to the Garden of Gethsemane, where we “keep watch” and pray with the Lord for one hour - just as He asked. The “Garden” will be recreated in our Chapel.

Good Friday’s 3:00pm Service (it’s not a Mass) begins in silence; it is the hour of the Lord’s death. After the Lord’s Passion and Prayers, we adore the Cross by kissing or touching it, bowing or genuflecting before it (it’s your choice.) Holy Communion ends this service. At 7:30pm, our 10th grade Confirmation candidates present the Living Stations of the Cross–this year, the Stations written by Pope John Paul II and prayed for the first time in 1991. We do this in honor of his canonization in 10 days.

On Holy Saturday the traditional Blessing of Easter Food is at 10:50am. The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 11:00am.

The Paschal Vigil’s Night Watch of the Resurrection begins at 8:00pm in darkness. (There’s no 4:00pm Vigil Mass on Saturday–anywhere!). We’ll proclaim 4 of the 7 Old Testament Scripture readings; we have one candidate for the Easter sacraments this year, so the Vigil will be a bit longer–about two hours. Bring bells from home and ring them during the Gloria as it rings out the joy of the resurrection. Masses on Easter Sunday are at 9:00am an 10:30am. (No 8:00am or 4:15pm Masses)
