Linden Park Field Dedication Ceremony [PHOTOS]

Sincere congratulations to Former Mayor Joan B. Taf on this special recognition.

Jay Kuczenski, Chairman of the Naugatuck Parks Commission, opened the ceremony on Saturday dedicating the field at Linden Park to Former Mayor Joan B. Taf. The honor was meant to acknowledge how instrumental she was in the project during her term as mayor that made the park what it is today. What had been a rainy morning turned sunny just in time for the outdoor ceremony.

Kevin Knowles served as Master of Ceremonies and his mother Dorothy was also in attendance. Members of the police and fire departments attended, as well as Mayor Robert Mezzo, Tax Collector Jim Goggin, Rocky Vitale, Rep. Rosa Rebimbas, and Senator Joe Crisco. All of the speakers listed Mrs. Taf's many accomplishments and congratulated her on this well-deserved honor.

On a personal note, one accomplishment that was not mentioned was Mrs. Taf's dedication to volunteering. The former mayor has volunteered at Maple Hill School as a literacy volunteer for well over ten years. Reading to and with the children of Naugatuck was one of her favorite duties while she was mayor, and she continues to enjoy working with small groups of first graders in my classroom on a weekly basis. We very much appreciate her many years of dedicated service.

A small reception followed the ceremony at Mrs. Taf's daughter and her husband's home.

The Parks Commission is dedicating the meadow at Gunntown Passive Park to the Former Mayor Robert C. Paolino for his part in acquiring Gunntown during his term as mayor. Mr. Paolino's dedication will be held on May 17 at 11:00 am at Gunntown Passive Park and Nature Preserve. They  recently dedicated the field at Fawn Meadow Park to Mr. Paul Bendler, Sr. for his contribution to the borough's youth organizations for many years on May 3.
