Watertown High student Kristen VanDerlyn will study opera singing at the Met.
At 16, Kristen VanDerlyn’s has already performed in many area community theaters. She recently appeared in Annie Get Your Gun with Naugatuck Teen Theater and has performed with the Get Up Stage Company and Curtain Call Kids. She played Wendy in Peter Pan and Wendy at Watertown High School production, for which she received a Halo nomination for best supporting actress. This busy young actress is a great singer and dancer.
Now her lifetime love of music and theater has earned her a trip to the Metropolitan Theater in New York for an opera singers intensive. Ms. VanDerlyn was one of only 12 selected to attend this intensive session led by guest teachers and Met Opera Guild staff. It ends with a recital in a Metropolitan ballroom.
Jim Taylor published a wonderful article about Ms. VanDerlyn in TownTimes News.com.
This young lady will be performing as a featured dancer in Evita at the Warner Theater from February 1 through 9. She will also play Sam, one of the leads, in Leap of Faith, from March 27 to 29, at Watertown High School.
Congratulations to Miss Kristen on this amazing opportunity. Enjoy every minute of it!
