Naugatuck Community Band Gaelic Concert

A recap of the St. Patrick's Day concert presented on Saturday night in Seymour.

The Naugatuck Community Band performed on Saturday evening at Seymour Middle School. Seymour Arts sponsored the free concert that was open to the public. A nice crowd of music lovers sat comfortably in the auditorium where the band members had plenty of room to stretch out on the large stage.

The Irish themed concert opened with "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by Alexander Barr, Ken Casey, Woody Guthrie and Matthew Kelly arranged by Sean O'Loughlin. "The Rakes of Mallow" was arranged by Connecticut's own LeRoy Anderson. Highlights for the Disney/Pixar movie Brave was also arranged by Sean O'Laughlin.

"Wearing of the Green" by LeRoy Anderson was arranged by Douglas E. Wagner. "You Raise Me Up" by Graham/Lovland featured a solo by Bob Delagrange on flugelhorn.  That was followed by "The Lord of the Dance" by Ronan Hardiman, arranged by Richard Saucedo.

"Ask Not" was a musical tribute to the life of John F. Kennedy. Band president Bob Delagrange read a touching tribute to the president with an Irish heritage.

"The Boys of Wexford" by Robert Dwyer Joyce and arranged by Sammy Nestico was said to be JFK's favorite march. The hour-long concert concluded with "Gaelic Rhapsody" by Elliot A. Del Borgo.

The Naugatuck Community Band plays a blend of classic and popular concert band music with at least three major concert programs each year.

The NCB provides musicians from the region with the opportunity to rehearse and perform beautiful music. Directed by Naugatuck native Charles Marenghi, the band rehearses at City Hill Middle School on Thursday nights from 7:00 - 9:00pm. The band is open to all Connecticut musicians, aged 14 or older.
