Preview of 'God of Carnage' at The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts

'God of Carnage' opens April 25 at Brookfield Theatre

God of Carnage

BROOKFIELD - The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts (TBTA) presents the audacious dark comedy, "God of Carnage", opening April 25. The play is richly humorous and starkly revealing of the depths of parental involvement and protection. Do parents really live vicariously through their children or do they eternally channel their own inner child?

“God of Carnage” is written by Yasmina Reza, author of "Conversations After A Burial", "Winter Crossing", "The Unexpected Man", "Art", and "Life X 3", among other works. Her awards include the Moliere Award and Laurence Olivier Award. "God of Carnage" earned the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play.

The play is translated by Christopher Hampton, best known for his own play "Les Liaisons Dangereuses", which he also wrote as the screenplay "Dangerous Liaisons". He has earned numerous awards including four Tony Awards, an Academy Award, two BAFTAs, and a Writer's Guild of America Award.

“God of Carnage” begins after an altercation between two boys in the park. Their parents decide to meet to “work things out”. Michael, Veronica, Alan and Annette stand toe to toe, trying to maintain civility while squaring off in the defense of their children. The parents collectively dissolve into pettiness and an unleashing of their basic instincts.

Under the direction of Maureen Trotto, performers include Christopher Bird, Alex Echevarria, Reesa Roccapriore, and Elizabeth Young. The show is produced by Kristen Hoose and Lou Okell, with set design by Duane E Langenwalter.
