Preview of 'The Way You Wear Your Hat: The Music of George Gershwin' at TriArts

For the first time ever TriArts is presenting a show devoted to a single composer: the one and only George Gershwin!

TriArts Raises the Curtain on George Gershwin Revue

TriArts Sharon Playhouse is thrilled to announce the expanded summer season raises the curtain June 7th, 8th and 9th with a new kind of community revue. For the first time ever TriArts is presenting a show devoted to a single composer:  the one and only George Gershwin!

The Way You Wear Your Hat: The Music of George Gershwin” will have audiences tapping their toes and humming along to the man who gave us “Porgy and Bess” “Of Thee I Sing”  “Funny Face,” “Girl Crazy” and so much more.  Think “I Got Rhythm!”  “S’Wonderful!”  “Somebody Loves Me!”  Or remember “Biding My Time”?“Stairway to Paradise”? ”Love is Here to Stay”?

The show features the extraordinary talent that abounds in our area and a live orchestra in a brand new production created by Artistic Director John Simpkins. You’ll recognize your neighbors and friends, and you’ll enjoy the amazingly gifted local kids. Many are veterans of other TriArts productions like Oklahoma, Carousel, Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, The Music Man and Forum.  The youth cast is a wonderful group of TriArts Youtheatre students or graduates.

Other performers are delightful new discoveries making their TriArts debut.  But all have one thing in common:  a passion for theatre! The cast comes from Sharon, Lakeville, Salisbury, Cornwall, Millbrook, Litchfield, Great Barrington, Kent, New Milford, Pine Plains ... who would have thought so much talent could be found in a single region?

Artistic Director John Simpkins is the visionary creating this unique production that will celebrate musical theatre through the eyes of George Gershwin. Last year was the 75th Anniversary of the death of this American composer and pianist and TriArts is honored to celebrate his life and music to lead off the 2013 season. Eric Kang, Music Director of last years’ critical hit Altar Boyz returns to lead the seven piece orchestra and choreography is by MK Lawson, from TriArts’ productions of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, RENT and more. Long time resident scenic and lighting designers, Erik Diaz and Chris Dallos respectively, also return, as does Costume Designer Michelle Humphrey. Brad Berridge is the Sound Designer, Alice Bemand is Executive Director and John Simpkins is Artistic Director.
