SYST Footlights Put on Impromtu Preview of 'The Little Mermaid, Jr.'

When life gave them lemons, young actors made theatrical lemonade.

The students involved with Southington Parks & Recreation Department's Summer Theater "Footlights" had an interruption to their rehearsals on Monday morning when the fire alarm went off at Plantsville Elementary School. The school is where they are practicing for their upcoming production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.  The "Footlights" group is for young people entering grades 7 through 9. Newlywed Alyssa Fontana Bunel is the director.

The large group of young actors dutifully filed out into the parking lot and awaited the arrival of the fire department. Everyone was safe as they continued to rehearse in the shade of some nearby trees.

The young children in the Bright Beginnings Daycare Center next door were playing outside and headed to their fence to watch an impromptu preview of the show. The Footlights kids performed the songs "Under the Sea" and "Les Poissons" from The Little Mermaid, Jr. before they got the all clear from the Southington Fire Department to reenter the school building.

In a magical kingdom fathoms below, the beautiful young mermaid Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and convince Prince Eric that she’s the girl with the enchanting voice.

Come see the 2013 Southington Youth Summer Theater "Footlights" perform The Little Mermaid, Jr. on Friday, July 26th at 7pm, and Saturday, July 27th at 1pm and 7pm. All shows at Southington High School; tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are $8.00 each.

This is a great show for the very young at an affordable price.
