CHRISTMAS THEATRE SHOW TO BENEFIT NEW BRITAIN SALVATION ARMY HOMELESS SHELTER & FOOD PANTRY

December 16, 2013 – The Repertory Theatre of New Britain is about to begin its second weekend of the historically based holiday tale – The Christmas SchoonerThe Christmas Schooner is based on the true story of “The Christmas Tree Ship”.   Around the turn of the century, brothers Herman and August Schuenemann sailed across Lake Michigan to bring Christmas trees to German-Americans living in Chicago.   This was a perilous journey, but the men risked their lives each year to bring the joy of the holidays to so many others.

“In keeping with the theme of the Schunemann brothers and The Christmas Schooner, we are committed to ensuring that each and every person can experience the joy of the holiday season”, said Duane Campbell, Artistic Director for the show. The theatre has announced a food drive to support the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter and Food Pantry in New Britain.  Patrons who bring canned/non-perishable food items to the performance of The Christmas Schooner on Friday, December 20th, will be able to purchase tickets to the show at the door for a deeply discounted rate of $5.00 per person.
