Obituary: A. James Loman Dies at 88

The following obituary was provided by Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home.

NAUGATUCK – Mr. A. James Loman, 88, of Hilltop Road, Naugatuck, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Glendale Health Center.  He was the widower of Jane (Solberg) Loman.

Mr. Loman was born in Union City, Conn., on May 8, 1923, a son of the late Anthony and Stella (Piotrowski) Loman. He was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and retiree of the Chemical Division of Uniroyal, Inc. where he worked for 51 years. He was an Army veteran serving during World War II and a member of the Catholic War Veterans. He also worked as sexton for 63 years at St. Hedwig Church where he was also a communicant.  

In 1991, he received the Red Cross Volunteer of the Year Award; organizing blood drives at Uniroyal and participating in many. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his 81 rose bushes earning him a feature in the Naugatuck News.

He leaves his son, James Loman and his wife Cynthia of Mount Pleasant, CA; his daughter, Lisa Loman Medeiros and her husband Michael of Danbury; his brother, Fred Loman of Naugatuck; his three grandchildren, Anthony, Nathaniel, and Zachary Loman; several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 10 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.
