Obituary: Alan R. Kirk, 58, of Naugatuck

Alan R. Kirk, 58, of Naugatuck and formerly of New Britain, passed away Thursday June 6, 2013 at the VITAS Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness.

Alan was born February 14, 1955 in Waterbury the son of Ruth (Anderson) Kirk of Naugatuck and the late Franklin C. Kirk.  He was a 1973 graduate of Naugatuck High School and obtained his bachelors degree from Central Connecticut State University.  He was employed by Bell Simos Inc. of Hartford for the past 3 years where he was an Accountant, and previously had been employed by Northeast Utilities for 27 years.  He was a Civil War Buff where he volunteered at several battlefields in Gettysburg, PA. , and also enjoyed camping and hiking

Besides his mother, Alan is survived by his brother Bruce and his wife Jean of Naugatuck; his sister Diane Hunt and her husband Thomas of Naugatuck; several nieces and nephews Thomas and Tracey Hunt, Ronald and Rose Hunt, Steven and Johnna Hunt, Laura and Dan Sarnelli, and Jason and Beckey Kirk; 10 great nieces and nephews; as well as his good friends Kevin and Cindy Mahan and Diane Emutis.

Alan’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room; the staff at VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital and Julie Branco-Sampaio for their care and concern.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday June 9, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 5 p.m. until the start of the service at 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to VITAS Innovative Care, 199 Park Road., Suite 102, Middlebury, CT 06702.  For online condolences to light a candle or share a story, please visit www.aldersonfuneralhomes.com
