Obituary: Anton M. "Butch" Torre, Navy Veteran, Dies at 68

The following obituary was provided by Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home.

NAUGATUCK — Mr. Anton M. "Butch" Torre, 68, of Lorann Drive, Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Linda (Andrade) Torre.

Mr. Torre was born in Waterbury, Conn., on April 4, 1943, son of the late Anton M. Torre, Sr. and Alma (Rakauskas) Torre. He was a resident of Naugatuck for 15 years and retired from Pratt & Whitney in Cheshire and Middletown after 30 years of service. He was an avid reader and a Yankee and UConn Basketball fan. 

He enjoyed playing cards with his friends from Pratt & Whitney, fishing, building birdhouses with his grandchildren, and feeding the birds outside of his home every morning. Anton loved animals, especially his dogs Taco and Penny. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He served in the United States Navy from 1960-1964 on the ship, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Besides his wife of 24 years, he leaves a son, Michael D. Torre and his wife Trudy of Waterbury; a stepson, Michael Marcil and his wife Melissa; a sister, Donna Torre of Oakville; four grandchildren, Alexa and Evan Torre, Ashley and Chrissy Marcil; nieces, Cheryl White and Kristin Leary; nephews, Alan and Scot Crosswait; several great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Anton Torre III; his sister, Sandra Lowe; and his granddaughter, Candace Marcil.

His funeral will be held on Friday September 16, 2011 at 9:45 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
