Mrs. Dorothy Ann (Vaillancourt) Carter, 96 of Waterbury, passed away Thursday March 14, 2013 at the Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck. She was the widow of George H. Carter, Sr., who passed away in 2001 after 65 years of marriage.
Mrs. Carter was born in Plymouth, Nov. 4, 1916, a daughter of the late Alfred and Flora (Hall) Vaillancourt and had been a Waterbury resident for more than 65 years. Prior to her retirement, she was manager of The Card Shoppe in Waterbury for many years. After their retirement, she and her husband enjoyed splitting their time between Florida and Maine, and enjoyed dancing. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Waterbury.
She is survived by her son, George H. Carter, Jr. and his wife Margaret of Leesburg, Fla.; one daughter, Janet Dowler and her husband, Martin of Ft. Pierce, Fla,; seven randchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Alfred and Arthur Vaillancourt.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Waterbury, 222 West Main St. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., is assisting with the arrangements.
