Obituary: Kathleen "Katie" Karlak Dies at 22

NAUGATUCK - Kathleen Anne Karlak, age 22, of 243 East Waterbury Road, died Sunday June 19, 2011 at Saint Mary's Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Kathleen was born in Waterbury on September 2, 1988 daughter of John Stephen and Teresa (Martin) Karlak. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and recently graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., and was currently working in food service. She was a kind and deeply caring young woman who put the needs and well being of others before her own and was always willing to help to those in need. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Prospect.

Besides her parents, Kathleen is survived by two brothers: Nicholas Karlak of Seymour and Christopher Karlak of Naugatuck, her maternal grandfather: Edward Martin of Groton, her paternal grandmother: Agnes Karlak of Southbury and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday June 25, 2011 at 9 a.m. at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Calling hours will be held on Friday June 24, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Road Route 69 Prospect. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury.
