Obituary: Kenneth R. Byrd Dies at 56

NAUGATUCK - Kenneth R. Byrd, 56 of Naugatuck, and formerly of New Haven, CT entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. 

Born in New Haven, CT on June 3, 1954 to the late Sadie Byrd, Kenneth was employed with Yale Termite & Pest Elimination Corp., Ansonia, CT for the past 7 years and retired from Avco Lycoming Company, Stratford, CT after 20 years of service. Kenneth was a member of the Central Connecticut Baseball Umpires Association of Waterbury for 15 years, a well known and respected member of the Western Connecticut Football Association of Waterbury as a referee for the past 12+years and Central Connecticut Basketball Association Board Member for 2 years. 

To his legacy of memories he leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 24 years, Linda Byrd, two daughters, Melana Byrd of New Haven, Carla Thomas (Jimmy) of Naugatuck, two sons Irving Thomas (Yokasty) of Windsor and Troy Smith (Lisa) of East Hartford. Also to mourn his passing are two sister-in-laws, Gwendolyn Bellamy (Bobby) of New Britain and Darlene Seals (Renford) of Poquonock, CT and a brother-in-law Russell Seals, Jr. of Tampa, Florida, five grandsons, five granddaughters and one great granddaughter. He also leaves to mourn Desiree Byrd-Mayes and a very special friend Jimmy Allen along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kenneth will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who enjoyed travelling, sports and spending time with his family.

Arrangements: Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow Street, Naugatuck, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 am until the time of the service. The family will receive friends after 12 noon. Following the service, family and friends are invited to American Legion Hall Post 17 on 231 Cedar Street, Naugatuck, CT for fellowship and repast.
