Obituary: Lidia (Kabacyk) Grendziszewski Gontare Dies at 86

The following obituary was provided by Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home.

WOLCOTT – Mrs. Lidia (Kabacyk) Grendziszewski Gontarek, 86, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011 at Wolcott View Manor.  She was the widow of Jan Grendziszewski and Stephen Gontarek.

Mrs. Gontarek was born in Kiev, Ukraine, Russia on January 10, 1925. She immigrated to this country with her first husband and eldest son on October 1, 1949 from Germany settling in Union City. She retired after 27 years from the Footwear Division of Uniroyal, Inc. and had also worked at Sperry Electronics in Waterbury for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, a member of PNA Lodge 283, and later a communicant of St. Hedwig Church. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She leaves her two sons, William Grendziszewski and his wife Alicia and Kenneth J. Grendziszewski and his wife Mary Lou all of CT and; her beloved grandchildren, Nicole Grendziszewski, Alicia Whiting and her husband Craig, Elizabeth Grendziszewski, and Will Grendziszewski; and several nieces and nephews in Poland and Russia. She was predeceased by her brother.

Her family would like to send a special thank you to all of the nurses, LPNs, CNAs and staff at Wolcott View Manor for all of their warmth and excellent care during her time there.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 3 at 9:45 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck to St. Hedwig Church, 32 Golden Hill Street, Naugatuck for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Spring Lake Road, Waterbury.
