Obituary: Matthew M. Tooker, Served His Country in the USMC

NAUGATUCK — Mr. Matthew A. Tooker, 25 of Naugatuck, passed away early Saturday morning due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Matt was born in Danbury on March 14, 1986, a son of Anne (Connor) Tooker and was educated in the local school system. He was a 2005 graduate of Emmett O’Brien Regional Technical School. Following graduation he was employed by Gar-Kenyon Technologies of Naugatuck, until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2007. He had served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and was wounded in action. He served with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division as a Scout Sniper, with the rank of Corporal.

Matt was awarded the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Medal (Afghanistan) the Navy and Marine Corps. Achievement Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd Award) the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Navy Unit Commendation.  He was released from active duty this past August. He was a member of the Royal Order of the Purple Heart.

Besides his mother of Naugatuck, he leaves 3 sisters, Abigail M. Tooker of Naugatuck, Melissa A. Tooker of Darien, and Amanda M. Tooker of Vernon.

Matt’s funeral service will be held on Friday Sept. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, with full Military Honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday Sept. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:15 a.m. Members of the Conn. Patriot Guard will provide honors at the funeral home on Friday morning.
