Mrs. Barbara J. (Waldron) Grohs , 62, born July 7, 1950 in Waterbury, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Frederick Grohs, her childhood sweetheart, husband of 40 years, and best friend; treasured mother of Susan Grohs, Pamela Landsberg and husband Daniel; adored grandmother of Julia Landsberg; dearly-loved sister of Richard, Robert, Thomas, Wayne, and Craig Waldron, Priscilla Schultz, Jean Morneault, Sandra O’Brien, Deborah Roaix and caring aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Wendy McCuin.
Barbara was a graduate of Terryville High School but a resident of Thomaston nearly all her life. She attended college at Tunxis Community College & worked at Aetna for 10 years. She traveled extensively with her husband and enjoyed every place she went. She was a faithful Christian woman who spent her days loving God and taking care of others. She deeply loved her family and lived to provide meals, hand-me-downs, rides, small gifts, coupons and articles, or simply friendship to strangers, friends and family.
She attended Community Bible Church in Terryville, was a member of Tres Dias and several bible study groups, and cherished fellowship. For years, she organized the Bargain Shop to benefit Thomaston Public Library, was Captain for the Thomaston Red Cross Bloodmobile, participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and especially loved mentoring children in Thomaston & Plymouth schools. The time she spent taking care of others could never be calculated, and Barbara never kept track. She loved to read her bible and enjoyed life pure and simple with her husband. Her best days were spent with friends, family and a cup of decaf tea.
Arrangements: The funeral for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, August 23, at 11:00 A.M. at the Terryville Congregational Church 233 Main St. Terryville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, from 5 to 8 pm at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street in Thomaston. Burial will be private.
