Obituary: Norman F. Litke, 83, of Naugatuck

Mr. Litke was a founding member of the Naugatuck Hall of Fame and was involved in many civic organizations.

Norman F. Litke Sr., 83, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, April 19, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of Genevieve (Jean) McDonnell Litke. Norman was born November 26, 1929 in Waterbury, Conn. He was the son of the late Albert and Freida (Yulke) Litke. He was a Naugatuck High School graduate of the class of 1942. Norm worked at Uniroyal Rubber Company in Naugatuck and The Perilli Company of Wallingford until his retirement.

Besides his wife Jean of 62 years, Norm leaves behind 7 seven children: Norma Jean Lisieski and her husband Phil, James Litke, Norman Jr. and his wife Maureen, Jack and his wife Mary, Terri Meleschnig and her husband Peter, Barbara Walker and her husband Edward, and Thomas and his wife Cindy. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Margaret Ann and six brothers and sisters.

Norm also leaves his grandchildren, Philip (Marie) Lisieski Jr., Jennifer (Nick) (Lisieski) Vernucci, Matthew (Krista), Eric (Michelle), Christopher (Larissa) and Brian (Mindy) Litke, Rebecca (Wayne) (Litke) Kirsten, Elizabeth Litke, Kyle Litke, Meghan and Joseph Hanley, Erin (Patrick) (Hanley) Schwartz, EJ and Samantha Walker, Benjamin Meleschnig, and Jennifer (Charles) (Adomelis) Ajero, Shawn and Anthony Adomelis. He leaves 10 great grandchildren. Norm is survived by a sister, Claire Ardry, and many nieces and nephews.

Norm was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck and dedicated to his community. He was a communicant of Immanual Luthern Church and involved in the church council by holding the position of past president. He was a longstanding member of the Naugatuck Elks Lodge # 967 and a founding member of the Naugatuck Hall of Fame. Norm was involved in Naugatuck Jr. Football and was a member of the Democratic Town Committee. He was past director of the Union City Little League and Naugatuck Babe Ruth. He loved spending time with his family and hosting annual picnics where he enjoyed bocci, horeshoes, bon fires, and catching up with family and friends. Some of his pasttimes included golfing, hunting, and tending to the home he built for his family.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the dedicated people who work at St. Mary's Hospital Xavier 3, Glendale Health Care, Dr. Ralph Tremaglio, the VNA of Waterbury, and Judy Dingle for their compassion and support to Norm and his family during his illness.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 170 Coen St., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the church between the hours of 10 a.m. until the time of service. Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect, is in charge of arrangements.
